Google is, without doubt the dominant force within the UK online search industry, accounting for between 80% and 90% of UK search engine traffic (depending on the source). Globally, comScore recently noted that Google is still significantly ahead of its competitors, generating 76.7 billion searches or 67.5 % of the market share in July 2009 which represents year-on-year growth in user numbers of 58.4%. In plain English, it is important you optimise your site on Google!
Google UK’s MD, Matt Brittin was interviewed on the Jeremy Vine show recently. Whilst the interview was replete with Vine’s usual wonderful generalisations and attempts to stir up controversy where none exists, there were some interesting snippets.

It might be time for you to consider a redesign of your site to make sure you are not only giving out the right messages to prospects when they land on your site but also that they get there in the first place.

Twitter has announced plans to introduce a premium business service.
Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter said "these premium tools will be aimed at companies that wish to use Twitter to stay in touch with customers" though there haven't been any precise definition of what this will mean - only that it will probably include features like analytics which aren't currently provided for.
Twitter also announced that, whilst there were no immediate plans to introduce advertising, the company wanted to "keep our options open".
